Scalarama Leeds
A DIY, co-operative, volunteer-led organisation ‘by everyone, for everyone’, supporting people across Leeds to screen the films they love, in a celebration of community-led cinema, skills sharing and pop-up film programmes. I joined the core team in 2019 and have since enjoyed the ridiculousness of the watchalongs, ‘egg theme’ mini projects, as well as our encouragement of the use of non-traditional venues, as new ways to creatively engage diverse audiences. I truly believe that the wider range of people putting on films, the more interesting the films the city has to offer. Let’s get weird.
Scalarama Film Festival
A month-long festival every September, with regular public meetings throughout the year to engage those wishing to take part in the festival, offering advice, networking opportunities and skills workshops. The festival is an opportunity to showcase the wide array of DIY film programmers and venues in Leeds, and to develop new ones.

Scalarama Summer Screenings, August 2021
A development pilot funded by Leeds Inspired. We provided three paid programming opportunities, targeted at local emerging and developing freelancers with no previous experience, fully covering their screening and licence costs.
The programmers were guided by the Scalarama team, to encourage further learning and career progression, whilst gaining the confidence to put on and promote their own screening events.
